Murmuration

Wings is the newest member of Lens and Atlas. Newer, I should say. Because birds have been a part of the family here for some time, but I started to feel that they need their own nest. My fascination with birds has grown and my curiosity with bird photography has reached a place where I feel it is a great addition to the structure. Bird photography always intrigued me, but it took some effort to understand the niche and acquire adequate skills to feel comfortable. It needs more skills in the field and in post than I had. But like everything else, you start and you improve. In the beginning the photos were all blurry, out of focus butt shots. Then the steep learning curve, some new gear, amazing people I learnt from and hours in the field. But above all learning about these amazing creatures with whom we share this planet is what compelled me to create “Wings”. Birds are not just beautiful; they are a barometer of health of this tiny blue dot we call home. I learned from some amazing movies, books, websites and most of all from the most well-known and robust scientific open-source project on birds, eBird. It is an invaluable tool not just for birding but science in general. The fact that it is built on similar ethos of maps and photography, makes it doubly my favorite.

I hope to grow this section to something meaningful and even if one of you are convinced that we need to do better to conserve these glorious creatures, it will be worth the effort.
